Bridging The Culture Gap

Explore the story behind “Bridging the Cultural Gap”, a booklet that chronicles the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians’ efforts to revitalize traditional music and dance.

In the early 1970s, the Choctaw Central High School Music Program received funding from the EFEA Title III Project to develop resources for teaching Choctaw music. This project brought together Tribal leaders, educators, students, parents, and community cultural bearers to create a series of music materials that helped preserve traditional Choctaw culture.
